my favoritest movies of 08 [28 Dec 2008|05:42pm]
1. Let the Right One In:
It's as if Kubrick rose from the dead and took on Vampires,
I don't like horror movies, but this was tops story-wise this year. fantastic. makes you feel soo cold.
go see it in the theater. even idiots talking next to us didn't distract me from loving this film.

2. In Bruges: genre bending awesomeness. Un-PC and daring, kept me guessing, love and hate the characters at the same time. shakespearian. so good.

3. The Counterfeiters:
Suspenseful, funny, awesome.

4. Wall-E: Pixar has the Balls. Everytime i think they'll shrivel them up, they hangem out for the world to see.
We happened to see this at Pixar, surrounded by Pixar folks in their awesome theatre of sound, so there's no way not to be biased. Veddy good shtuff.

Honorable mentions:
1. Iron-Man: so much fun, Downey rocks it. kinda anti-climactic ending with the other similiar, yet different robot baddie, but all in all great.
2.Loved the Batman, except for that stupid voice. sooo dumb!
Man on a Wire: great doc. with rushed ending.
3. Zach and Miri: was good, and their big sex scene was the most touching sex scene i've seen on film. Wish i didn't know some of the jokes from the trailer tho. and the poo joke really wasn't funny.
Xtra points for using that MC Chris song!

for love of Wall E [22 Jun 2008|04:45pm]
Annie and I saw an advanced showing of Wall E at Pixar last friday and it was simply wonderful.
It was so much better than the least common denominator trailers they've been showing.
It's as good as Ratatouie, if not better, although completely different of course.
It makes alot of the other 3D stuff look like formulaic tv shows, or just other Copy/Paste 3D stuff.
After watching, it wasn't like "hey we just saw a great cartoon" but "that was a great film".
there were so many oppurtunities where they could have gotten the cheap laugh or the "easy sell" but didnt.
The short they had before the flick was slapstick awesome as well.

That's coming from a surly fuck like myself.

Kyuketsuki Brine [14 Jun 2008|10:33pm]
Heres a framed drawpainting i did for Bear and Bird Gallery's
Yokai Show. Its a Japanese Vampire Brine.
Unlike most vampire spirits, the Kyuketsuki Brine
sucks on the blood of flowers and can turn itself into a bee.

Baseman's Dying of Thirst Book [09 Jun 2008|04:18pm]
Ok, so i received an advance copy of the Baseman book i designed. Published by Last Gasp it's large , over-sized and in-charge.
it was a fun book to work on, with lotsa vintage postcardsof nekkid ladies (now probably dead!) , paintings, and drawings.
Lotsa weird sex positions too, skeletons with masks, snowball men shedding their skin, rabbits, rabbit skeletons in disguise and more in a trance state. Not sure howmany more art books ill design, but this and the Ron English book just had to be done. We just put the pre-order for the book here:

heres some photos:

I originally wanted this to be the cover (and have it all sewn round the edges) but it ended up as the title page:

this is the book, wish i had an "in-scale shot" it's big.

onea my favorite Baseman paintings in the book:

Palace of the Brine Online! [12 Jun 2007|01:02pm]

Palace of The Brine Exhibition by Attaboy
at Rotofugi Chicago.
Pieces just made available online!
A temporary site has been put up to view the show and inquire about available work:

Rotofugi gallery says:
"If you want to purchase a piece or have any questions (such as size
or medium used on a particular piece) please email Kirby at
Pieces are first come, first served until we get the final gallery up
on The Rotofugi online store at which time all purchases will be through
there....so don't sleep if you like something!"

What a great time it was, Starting with a harrowing plane ride of shake m' up
turbulance which the formulaic inflight movie of Wild Hogs could not distract from,
there was the convection oven like heat of Chicago, the insane and slow and always on the phone cab drivers,
but most of all the sheer awesomeness of Kirby and Whitney and the Rotofugi staff
who put on a great show and retail operation. Annie and Atta had a rawking town in the windy city
where a fine establishment makes the bestest pierogies EVER to be tasted. And long live Uncle Fun!
Thanks to everone who came out for the Palace of the Brine!

P.s. here's a little movie of installing the spray painted walls
